Join the WBHS Band - THE VANGUARD!

Being part of the WBHS Band is one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences you will enjoy during your time in high school.  As a member, you will have the opportunity to travel and perform with the award-winning VANGUARD. The West Boca Band Program is one of the finest in the country.  Our Marching, Jazz, and Concert Bands consistently earn Superior ratings at both district and state levels.

Our rehearsal time outside of school is generally just two days a week.  And with a seven-period day, there is more than enough room to include band in your schedule and get in other types of classes throughout your four years in high school.  Participation in one year of band fulfills the one-year Fine Arts credit required for graduation.  The West Boca Raton Community High School Bands are comprised of some of the highest achievers in the school.  Many members hold very high grade point averages, are enrolled in AP courses, and are involved in clubs and athletics.  The various Academies provide an even more intense academic focus for some of Palm Beach County’s most gifted and motivated students. 

SYMPHONIC BAND:  Most incoming 9^th graders will be placed in this concert band.

WIND ENSEMBLE:  For the most mature and advanced musicians.

"THE VANGUARD” MARCHING BAND:  Only operates during the first 12 weeks of school and combines the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble to form one large band.  Meets after school.

JAZZ BAND:  By audition only.  Meets one period.  Instrumentalists / vocalists must be in one of the concert bands listed above.

PERCUSSION:  Required for all percussionists in the band program.  Includes marching and concert bands, as well as winter percussion ensemble.

GUARD:  Performs with the VANGUARD, as well as participates in Winter Guard performances and competitions.

Being in band is a whole lot more than sitting in a chair and playing an instrument!

Middle School Night:

8th grade students from all area schools are invited to spend an evening with the VANGUARD at a home football game.  Bring your instrument and join in our pre-game activities.  Then head out to the stands with the band to play stand tunes and cheer for the WBHS Bulls!  The evening events will give you a good idea of what it'll be like to become a member of the VANGUARD!

Ice Breakers:

Ice Breakers will take place in May.  Dates for Ice Breakers will be included in the EVENTS calendar as soon as they are set.
